As Official Caterer to the Vancouver Playhouse Theatre Company we are proud to announce the start of a new production: HUNCHBACK

A darkly romantic musical set amidst the buttresses and shadows of Notre Dame Cathedral, Hunchback tells the tale of a tormented priest, a beautiful dancer and the deformed bell ringer Quasimodo. Swept up in a vortex of lust, fear and the desire to control a destiny that will ultimately destroy them all, they are consumed by love in its most potent, merciless and obsessive form.

This surprising new take on Victor Hugo's famous story comes from the multi-award-winning creative team at Catalyst Theatre.

January 4th 2012 Vancouver Playhouse Theatre Company's "RED"

As Official Caterer to the Vancouver Playhouse Theatre Company we are proud to announce the start of a new production:

RED-starring David Coomber and Jim Mezon

Written by John Logan, Directed by Kim Collier, a co-production with Canadian Stage and the Citadel Theatre

A powerful Tony Award winning drama

"There is only one thing I fear in life, my friend... One day the black will swallow the red."

Under the watchful gaze of his young assistant and the threatening presence of a new generation of artists, Mark Rothko takes on his greatest challenge yet: to create a definitive work for an extraordinary setting. Red is a moving and compelling account of one of the greatest artists of the 20th century whose struggle to accept his growing riches and praise became his ultimate undoing.

Showing at the Vancouver Playhouse from January 14-February 4 2012.  For more information or a complete list of Plays with Fire see www.vancouverplayhouse.com

February 22nd, 2011 Vancouver Playhouse Theatre Company's "Death of a Salesman"

As Official Caterer to the Vancouver Playhouse Theatre Company we are proud to announce the start of a new production:
Death of a Salesman - starring Tom McBeath, Donna Belleville, Bob Frazer, and Kevin James.

Written by Arthur Miller
Directed by John Cooper

The Pulitzer Prize-winning Death of a Salesman made household names of both playwright Arthur Miller and the character Willy Loman.  Willy Loman is the American everyman: the dreamer chasing unsuccessfully after greatness until he becomes consumed by the dream.  He’s a tragedy on a small scale, made great by his embodiment of all our fears and failures.  His flaw comes down to a lack of self-knowledge and his downfall threatens not the city but only a single household.  Last produced at the Playhouse in 1983, its most recent revivals on Broadway in 1999 and London’s West End in 2005 demonstrate its lasting power.

At the Vancouver Playhouse from Feb 12 – March 5, 2011.  For more information or a complete list of the 2010/2011
productions visit the Vancouver Playhouse Theatre Company's website at www.vancouverplayhouse.com

February 21st, 2011 Hot Meal for the Hungry a Big Success

Peake of Catering would like to thank all those involved with making our second annual “hot meal for the hungry” campaign on Saturday, February 19th a big success. Within the first 30 minutes we had served over 600 hot dogs and 300 bowls of chilli! In total, by 12:30pm, we had served over 1250 portions of food with all remaining items going to the Union Gospel Mission’s kitchen.  The Peake team, including management and staff from our operations department and kitchen, were on hand with family members, friends and our generous suppliers to set up the portable kitchen. In addition to serving up this hot meal, Peake of Catering staff managed to collect over 250 items of clothing, socks, and blankets for the needy.  David Peake believed strongly in our responsibility to help those less fortunate than ourselves.  We are very pleased to have been able to carry on this campaign in his memory and we look forward to many more.

July 8, 2010  Museum of Anthropology

Peake of Catering was thrilled to be the first catering company to provide food and beverage services at the newly expanded grounds at the Museum of Anthropology.   The gala for 500 was the closing banquet for the International Nuclear Physics Conference, the premier conference for those in the field of nuclear physics.

The evening began with cocktails and passed appetizers including spinach, lobster and almond beignets with an apricot coulis and asparagus spears wrapped in smoked salmon with a hint of lime flavoured chipotle cream cheese, to name a few.  In keeping with Peake’s Ocean Wise sustainability program the main course featured wild mushroom and pistachio crusted line caught ling cod with an heirloom tomato and basil coulis served with seven grain rice and market fresh vegetables.

As to not obstruct views the north east, walls of Apex’s clear span tent were windowed, and in some areas pulled completely back to let the cool ocean breeze pass through. The three course plated dinner was served and cleared in under two hours including a 15 minute break for speeches.  The evening was a resounding success with accolades from all involved including the venue, the client and most importantly, their guests.  Chef and President David Peake said “This is a testament to the MOA, Apex tents and Peake of Catering working in unison to leave our international guests with an experience of a lifetime”.

April 9, 2010  Peake of Catering Takes Team Building to a Tasty New Level!

April 9th marked a new era in Peake of Catering as we launched our first annual Iron Chef Competition for one of our valued clients.  The afternoon began with transforming their space into a fully functioning kitchen complete with 3 matching workstations and a demonstration table replete with an abundance of fresh produce, a selection of precooked starches and sauces along with an array of un-marked spice jars.  14 guests were split into 3 specially named teams with customized name badges.  A quick introduction to the rules of play was given by their hostess and after a round of drinks and themed appetizers were passed, the real fun began.  Our Executive Chef, Jody McLeod gave them a 20 minute demonstration of the proposed menu.  They then had 80 minutes exactly to replicate (somewhat) what they had just been shown.  The teams were graded on everything from punctuality to imagination and sense of humour to presentation.

All food was tasted and graded and an ultimate winner was pronounced.  Gifts included tea towels with the company’s logo and an “I survived….”message printed on it tucked into a Peake of Catering mug along with limited edition cookbooks that features Peake of Catering.  As far as team building goes, nothing brings people together faster than food, drink and laughter.

January 6, 2010  Peake of Catering during 2010 Winter Games

Peake of Catering would like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers for their continued patronage.  As you are aware, the 2010 Winter Games are almost upon us and our beautiful city is preparing for an incredible experience.

We are extremely happy and honoured to announce that we are the only Vancouver-based caterer to have been awarded a food service contract for a 2010 Winter Games competition venue.  The venue in question is the Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Centre, located at Hillcrest Park, right next door to Nat Bailey Stadium.  This venue will host the curling competition during the Olympic Games and a short time later the mixed wheelchair curling during the Paralympic Games.

As a result, we will be producing a large quantity of meals seven days a week, 24 hours per day.  As such, we are taking this opportunity to inform our clientele of the following changes to business prior to and during the games.

From February 2 to February 28, 2010 we will be providing limited service in the Metro Vancouver area and to Downtown Vancouver (due to various road and time restrictions Downtown Vancouver will not always be accessible).

Between March 1 and March 21, 2010, we will still be involved with the Paralympics but to a lessor degree and do not expect as many restrictions.

Our limited service will be as follows:

  - We will require a 20 guest minimum on every order

 - Delivery orders must be received two weeks in advanced of required date

 - Staff events during this time need to be finalized by mid January

 - Ordering will be done from a set menu which we will post on-line

We appreciate your continued support and apologize for any forthcoming inconvenience.  We will resume business as usual on March 22, 2010.  Our expectations and hope however is to increase our service during the entire month of March.
